Abstract
DR. ALAN MILLER IS A PROFESSOR OF Business Administration at Tennessee State University, Nashville, United States, and Dr. John Masten is a professor of Economics and past dean of the School of Business at the same institution. This paper deals with the design and organisation of micro and small business support agencies in the Dominican Republic. Information for the paper was obtained in 13 in-depth interviews. Attention is given to the degree of confruence between people, structure, and process of the assistance agency and the client enterprise. Special attention is given to examining divergencies between client and agency characteristics. The authors then demonstrate that some of the agency activities reflect attempts by agencies to compensate for these divergencies. These adjustments integrate client and agencv performance in order that they better meet organisational objectives by expanding resources, providing more effective service, equating personal and organisational success, and providing a greater contribution to the economy.
