Abstract
LOUIS RAYMOND is an associate professor of information systems at the University of Quebec at Trois Rivieres. This paper presents the results of an analysis of the problems of small businesses with regard to computer-based management information systems (MIS) based on interviews with 125 managers in 34 manufacturing firms. The main problems concern the organisation and management of information resources, the initial implementation process and the MIS application portfolio. These findings lead to propositions aimed at increasing the effectiveness of computer-based information systems in small firms.
