Abstract
Gilles Pache is currently lecturing at Reims University, France. He has carried out research on the evolution of the industrial system and the mechanisms of adaptation of transport firms at the Centre de Recherche d'Economie des Transports (CRET) of the Aix-Marseille 2 University. His paper underlines the disquieting future of small transport firms in France. They tend to lose their traditional custom of small industrial firms and are more and more forced to work for large transporters offering a complete logistic service to manufacturers (transport, warehousing, packaging, etc.). But as they go on offering a mere delivery service, they are subjected to the fluctuations of the economic situation.
