Abstract
Alan Bollard and David Harper are respectively senior research economist and assistant research economist at the New Zeland institute of Economics Research in Wellington. This paper reports on some aspects of an investigation into the process of employment generation in New zeland manufacturing industry in the period 1980-1984. The result show taht overall rates of employoment generation do differ by size of establishment. Analysis by growth rates of establishemts shows that birth and death are generally higher the smaller the nint. Expansion and contraction effects are much larger than these birth and death effects but they do not show the same clear trends by size class. The autor found that there is a higher rate of job gteneration in smaller establishments and also a higher rate of job loss there.
