Tan Thiam-Soon is a senior lecturer at the School of Management, National University of Singapore, but is currently working at the London Business School, UK. The paper describes the rationale and historical development of small business policy in Singapore. It also shows how the small enterprises and their future development are affected by the national economic policy and structure of the country.
