The purpose of this paper is to present suggestions for intervention strategies found
to be useful for children exhibiting coexisting stuttering and phonolog ical
disorders. Six guiding principles form the basis for clinical management: (1) the
use of an indirect phonological approach; (2) employing a phono logical process
approach; (3) the use of direct fluency modification tech niques; (4) the concurrent
application of phonological and fluency principles; (5) parental involvement; and
(6) the use of a group setting. Specific guidelines for selection of target
processes and target sounds are dis cussed together with fluency modification techniques.
