Abstract
The aims of CLTT were outlined in an editorial introducing the first issue at the beginning of 1985. This editorial is reproduced here, partly because many of the current subscribers to the journal may not have immediate access to that first issue, and partly because it provides the context for the remarks by the editor which precede.
