Abstract
This article deals with a Danish English-language reading proficiency test. It is dubbed 'Sprogtest' which means 'language test'. Since English textbooks are used extensively in Denmark, the test is offered to freshman students in order to diagnose weaknesses which may impede the undergraduates' academic careers. The test has to be anonymous and convincing to those who use it. In order to facilitate the immediate assessment of what parts can be transferred and used in other language areas, the article discusses the test construction, development and improvement in detail.
