Two equivalent Braille reading tests, one without and one with capital letters, were given to five educationally blind pupils who were given scores for reading rate, accuracy and comprehension which were statistically analysed. The rate of reading passages with capitals is significantly slower than those without; there is no significant difference in accuracy; and comprehension is greater when reading passages with capitals. Reasons for these observations are proposed.
