There is an urgent need to strengthen links between the education and the rehabilitation of visually impaired people in developing countries and to change some current attitudes and approaches. The following article, based on the points discussed at a meeting held at the University of Birming ham on 28 November 1991, outlines problems of particular concern and considers ways in which they might be addressed. It lists the recommendations drawn up with a view to future action and further meetings.
