Abstract
The importance of the sense of touch is being increasingly accepted and one sign of this is the growing involvement of visually handicapped people with the arts. Using as a focal point the seminar held at Leicester University (Art and Touch Education for Visually Handicapped People', 25-26 March 1988), this article outlines what has been achieved through recent developments in this field. It concludes by suggesting some essential objectives for the future.
