Abstract
Retinitis Pigmentosa is a family of related diseases in which the retinal cells deteriorate. Although this is well understood, the cause has not yet been found. In this article several theories about the cause are described. From these theories have evolved research studies which bring together workers from a number of disciplines. Their work is directed towards explaining RP but also, and more importantly, towards finding some way of treating the patient as early as possible.
