On 1st September 1983, the Research Centre for the Education of the Visually Handicapped at Birmingham University started a three-year research project into Computer Assisted Learn ing (CAL) in the education of the blind and partially sighted. What follows is an outline of the major aims of the project and how they are to be tackled.
