The purpose of the Study was to identify a number of children with visual impairments and multiple impairments (VIMI) within the public and private special schools of Crete in order to change the current educational attitudes towards these children. The stimulus for this Study came from previous research according to which there was no social provision for such children because, it was claimed, there were none. Head teachers and classroom teachers from 18 special education placements completed questionnaires. The Study found at least 76 children and young people with VIMI and 12 with a visual impairment. Finally, the Study offers an alternative model of assessment to traditional methods.
