Philip Haynes, a West Sussex probation officer seconded to a Health Authority substance misuse project, argues that recent probation practice emphasising cognitive- behavioural, educational or 'offending behaviour' approaches makes the family or relationship context of misuse a neglected yet still pertinent focus.
