Whilst public sector organisations like the Probation Service need to absorb lessons from the commercial world, about clearer accountability, agreed objectives, cost consciousness and more consistency in the quality of service delivery, Peter Lewis, Assistant Regional Staff Development Officer for the Midlands Region, cautions against adopting methods and style inappropriate for the scale or tasks of the Service.
