Abstract
The 'dispersed' concept in residential provision has existed for decades in the voluntary sector but has only recently been adopted by the Probation Service, often as a 'halfway house' facility. Speirhead in Sheffield has uniquely offered a completely dispersed hostel regime since 1984 and offers an encouraging contrast to traditional hostel practice.
