Abstract
The process of anchoring homogeneous catalytic species (metal ions) on to a polymeric resin support has been investigated in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as a promoter. The study established that the rate of metal ion sorption from aqueous media is significantly enhanced by the presence of hydrogen peroxide. A mechanism was proposed for the interaction between hydrogen peroxide and tungstic ions in solution, and a mathematical expression based on this mechanism developed, tested and found to be consistent with experimental observations. The sorption isotherm constructed on the basis of the experimental data was also found to be in agreement with the general understanding of the equilibrium nature of the sorption process.
