Abstract
A gravimetric method of studying the gasification reaction of carbonaceous materials during active carbon modification by means of water vapour as well as a description of the reaction kinetics are proposed. The basic postulate of chemical kinetics was applied as a first-order dependence of the reaction rate on the carbon mass:
dm/dt = m · f(T) · g(c1)
The kinetic equation was experimentally verified over the temperature range 891–1068 K using a gas stream consisting of 90 vol.% H2O + N2. Statistical analysis of the approximation of the experimental data to the kinetic equation proved the corrections of the assumptions and the applicability of the description proposed to control the extent of gasification during active carbon modification.
