Application of Activated Carbon to Decolouration in the Sugar Industry. Part I. Determination of the Physical and Chemical Properties of Activated Carbon
The decolouration of technical sugar solutions (thin juice) on six different activated carbons has been investigated. The parameters of the porous structure and the number of surface functional groups have been determined for each adsorbent. It has been found that the activated carbon used in the sugar industry exhibits better decolouring properties the greater the number of mesopores, super-micropores and surface basic groups it possesses.
