Abstract
The shape and propagation of the adsorption front of vapours and gases in activated carbon beds, e.g. within gas filters, can be visualised and analysed in a non-destructive way by X-ray computer tomography (Lottaz and Lavanchy 1987). A short description of the method is given and experimental results are presented which demonstrate the practical and successful use of this method in applications such as design improvements for gas filter canisters, based on the shape of the adsorption front, and the testing of numeric simulation and prediction models for dynamic sorption processes allowing the comparison of simulated ad- and de-sorption profiles of gravimetric load with experimental results.
