Abstract
Revd Leslie Francis is Professor of Pastoral Theology at Trinity College, Carmarthen, and University of Wales, Lampeter. Revd Ernest Stone was Diocesan Adviser for religious education in the diocese of Chichester. They report upon the findings of a detailed questionnaire which explores attitudes towards the ethos of church schools among governors of the 55 Church of England voluntary aided primary schools in the diocese of Chichester. The implications of these findings for the future of church schools are discussed in the light of the changing composition of school governing bodies.
