Abstract
A mathematical study of vibration propagation in the hip has been carried out. The object of the investigation was to demonstrate that the articulation behaves like a mechanical filter (i.e. linear and stationary) when submitted to vibrations. The study was performed on baboons with a total hip prosthesis on one side, the other being left untouched as means of comparison, both hips of the animals being also fitted with miniature accelerometers. The data collected during the experiments were treated with statistical tests (most of the time non parametric).
First results show that both articulations of the animals behave like expected, thus making lawful the use of spectral analysis for further experiments.
