Abstract
In this paper the mechanical properties of a new composite sandwich structure are presented. Two composite plates are connected by a polymer foam. This connection is reinforced with composite tubes (ties) of braided glass fibre (Figure 1). With this system the shear deformation of the sandwich panel is substantially reduced. The panels were tested at room temperature in bending, torsion and shear with a constant loading rate first in the elastic range and also in the plastic range with the object of obtaining information on the resilience and energy absorbing capability of the panels.
