In a previous article, which appeared in IKZ-HAUSTECHNIK, No. 23/90, pages 50 - 53, the individual growth stages of Legionella pneumophila were shown. Various studies have established that all pipe systems, irrespective of their material, can act as development habitats for Legionella. They adhere to a biofilm, on which they grow and multiply. They protect themselves against toxic agents by forming a fungus-like biogenic mass.
