Three additives: Alumina Hydrate, Strontium Carbonate, and Aluminium Silicate, were found to slightly reduce smoke emission from burning latex foam rubber. They had a purely physical effect on burning. Reductions in temperatures, gas generation and smoke emission were insufficient to produce practical improvements in safety. The most promising suppressants are likely to be char-formers and/or intumescents.
