Abstract
This paper covers the design, manufacture and hydrostatic pressure testing at the maximum working depth, of some of the largest buoyancy units ever considered in syntactic foam.
Finite element analysis and evaluation of individual polymer material and bond to steel properties, were key elements in the design of these units, which have now been in service in the North Sea for over 2 years of their 20 year life guarantee.
