Abstract
The Vertifoam process and machinery was published in Cellular Polymers by A.C.M. Griffiths and P.T. Shreeve in Vol. 3, 1984, 195. In a relatively short period of time the Vertifoam process has proved to be a very commercially successful foam manufacturing process. To date 41 Vertifoam machines have been sold world-wide in 21 countries which include UK, USA, South America, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, South Africa, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Hungary, EEC, and Middle East. This is a wide geographical spread. In addition to the commercial success further technical progress and development is described in the present review paper which records the past performance of urethane foam block production and looks forward to the future of Vertifoam technology which it is claimed will speed up the curing cycle, purge and collect the chlorofluorocarbon blowing agents, improve and make more uniform the physical properties of the foam throughout the block.
