The determination of MM of polyols by gel permeation chromatography is not always applicable, especially for the range 500–1500. The paper outlines a method using freezing point depression in acetophenone and since both this solvent and most polyols are hygroscopic, the interference by residual and entrained moisture is overcome by the use of a 4A type molecular sieve.
