Abstract
Many measures have to be adopted to ensure the safety of occupants from unwanted fires in buildings. This paper examines the work of fire prevention officers in local authority fire brigades to mitigate these problems by their use of the provisions of the Fire Precautions Act 1971. The implications of the proposals to amend the 1971 Act and the commitment of the Government to use appropriate standards for regulatory purposes are discussed
