Abstract
Impolite forms of address to others are linked with impolite behaviors. The present study sought to examine a possible link between spousal forms of address and intimate partner violence (IPV). Study 1 validated impolite scale ratings of spousal forms of address. Study 2 examined the links between spousal forms of address and IPV. Thirty-six heterosexual couples were sampled (N = 72). Husbands’ negative impoliteness ratings were positively linked with physical IPV against their wives.
