Abstract
The article states that the underlying principle of Gifted Education in the German Democratic Republic is to create a learning environment in which all children can develop to their maximum potential. As well as individual development, social responsibility is considered of primary importance. The paper continues with a description of research into differentiated educational processes in schools and suggests some guidelines for successful curriculum extension strategies both in and outside the classroom.
