Abstract
This paper proposes an experimental model for Teacher Education that is field oriented. An effort is made in the paper to envisage and recommend a teacher education programme that conducts all of the professional training that an intern or student teacher needs (in theory and methods of instruction) on site or in pre-identified schools. For this purpose, the paper recommends university/college operated schools (primary/secondary) as most ideal particularly if such a programme is worked. out with participatory input by serving teachers in the field. Such a teacher education programme as proposed would ensure the preparation of a cadre of classroom teachers needed for the last quarter of the 20th century.
