Abstract
This article briefly surveys the attitudes towards gifted education in the United States, Canada and Australia with particular emphasis on the latter. In general, Australia favours the development of provision for gifted pupils within the existing comprehensive education system. In recent national conferences specific attention has been given to emphasising the need for: 1) the identification of the particular needs of gifted pupils, 2) curriculum development and implementation and 3) resource support material. The writer emphasises, however, that research must be backed by appropriate legislation and funding to implement research recommendation.
