Abstract
In 1979, Argentina officially recognised the need for a study of the problems of the highly-gifted child. This took the form of a study of the bibliography on this subject, the formulation of a scheme for detecting such cases, and a tentative teaching approach. Creativity is seen as an essential component of giftedness and family counselling is considered of paramount importance. The needs of the gifted are perceived as an aspect of special education with the emphasis on providing for those needs within the normal school.
