Abstract
The origins, aims and organisation of the Royal Institution Mathematics Masterclasses are described briefly. The ideas which have influenced the choice of the mathematical material and the style of presentation are outlined. The main topics included are listed. A glimpse of a typical Saturday morning's activities at the Royal Institution is followed by more detailed accounts of the sessions on sequences and on motion and force. Some examples are given of exercises tackled by the pupils either individually or in small groups.
