Abstract
A new area of emphasis in gifted child education is counselling clever children as regards accepting and using their talents. Several areas of emphasis are involved in counselling the gifted — understanding giftedness, peer relationships, coping with lacklustre school environment — and each of these topics is reviewed.
Also, there are linkages between gifted child education and education of youngsters with other special learning needs. This linkage is reviewed and its importance is highlighted.
Lastly, there is much we still need to learn about the specific adjustment concerns of the gifted. These areas are listed, and each is then discussed in relation to its importance for improving the attitudes and performance of gifted youngsters.
