Abstract
A mixed 11 to 18 comprehensive school in Hertfordshire is starting to re-examine its learning strategies in order to provide the most flexible systems of learning for pupils of a very wide range of abilities, including many who achieve the highest academic standards.
Some basic features of the process of learning including the variety of learning path, pupil-participation in planning, the best use of time, enriching activities and the role of the teacher are all being studied carefully by the staff with the help of some important outside agencies, notably the Open University.
