Abstract
In response to the awareness of problems experienced by individual parents of high ability children in the Witwatersrand area, lecturers in the Department of Psychology of Education at Unisa, who are responsible for Gifted Child Education courses, decided to further investigate the nature and extent of the needs of parents and to plan strategies to address their needs. This article describes the steps taken to identify particular need areas. Results show that parents feel unsure of many areas concerning parenting gifted children and require support and information. Certain steps are being planned to meet these needs.
