Abstract
Roncaglia has made the fascinating claim that there is a difference between the marginalist school of economists and the economics of Sraffa which is related to the difference between Wittgenstein’s earlier and his later philosophy.
This claim is considered in the light of the commonly held view that Sraffa was influential in producing the change between Wittgenstein’s earlier and later philosophy.
It is shown that the claim is untenable and that the commonly held view is not as easy to support as those who make it lead one to suppose: it is contentious and possibly mistaken.
