Abstract
[In this occasional section we feature accounts of particular languages, translation programmes or translators. While the specific situations discussed may not be immediately applicable to all translators, they are offered in the hope that they will broaden our appreciation and understanding of the wider task we are engaged in around the world. In the following, Dr Daud H. Soesilo, UBS Asia-Pacific Area Translation Coordinator, provides a comparison of Malagasy, the only language of Malayo-Polynesian origin in Africa, with its closest relative in S. E. Asia.]
