The communication and information technologies developed during last 50–60 years are creating a new era, enabling people to access and share information with virtually anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything in a continuous, interactive and unrestricted manner. However, organizations adopting this state of the art technologies face several challenges in terms of devising new strategies, aligning the organization with new strategies, managing change process and organizational response to change. This article reviews various theories explaining the organizational change, and in particular change due to the introduction of information technology (IT). This article also attempts to apply these theories to understand organizational change management process due to introduction of paging technology in a case of Indian Railways.
