Abstract
The 1997–98 Budget has been hailed as a remarkable one as it promises high growth without inflation and with a human face. Can it fulfil its promise? What are the assumptions behind the budget and what are the policies required to realize the promise? In this article, Kirit S Parikh focuses on these issues and argues that the budget is a growth-oriented one.
