Abstract
The cattle insurance scheme has emerged as a saviour over the years for landless, small and marginal farmers, and for those whose major occupation is dairying. Cattle insurance has become compulsory under the Integrated Rural Development Programme.
Shenoy and Raju analyse various aspects of the scheme and suggest some measures for improving the working of the scheme such as education of the beneficiaries about the benefits of insurance, introduction of group insurance, measures for quick settlement of claims, and efforts to expand insurance coverage.
