Abstract
This paper provides an indepth analysis of the problems India is facing in the energy front. After studying the worldwide distribution of fossil fuels and the present and future consumption patterns, it analyses the options facing the policy-maker. The authors are of the opinion that India is one of the few countries which will face no difficult energy-induced economic problems in the next twenty-five years.
