Abstract
Research has shown that indifference and dissatisfaction in workplaces are on the ascent. Better conditions of work do very little to reduce the revolt against work; they also do not offer much opportunities for exercising initiatives. This has given birth to the concept of job redesign and work commitment to improve working environment. Tried out successfully in Italy and Sweden where the concept originated and took full shape, the concept has been successfully attempted at the Bhopal plant of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. This paper discusses salient features of the concept and details its application.
