Abstract
Interest in personalities of political leaders has been a persistent phenomenon throughout history. With the emergence of leaders such as Mao and Lenin, Gandhi and Nehru, and Hitler and Idi Amin, the question whether these leaders were really insignificant for the historical events they initiated and the policies they shaped for their countries has assumed significance. Sudhir Kakar reviews two recent publications on this fascinating subject.
