Abstract
[A vital aspect of the International Society for Music Education is the recognition of all musical cultures, the Oriental as well as the Occidental, folk musics as well as art musics. As the Indian Ocean Festival 1984 was essentially an international educational event and involved the musical cultures of over thirty countries of the vast Indian Ocean region, the following report is considered appropriate for inclusion in this journal.—Ed.]
