Earthsongs: Indigenous ways of teaching and learning

Abstract

Earthsongs was the third in a series of courses designed and facilitated by Dr. Lorna Williams, Canada Research Chair in Aboriginal Education at the University of Victoria. Subtitled Learning and teaching in an Indigenous world, these courses offer undergraduate and graduate students from the Faculty of Education and across the university, faculty members, and community members the opportunity to be engaged in an experiential educational practice and to learn first hand how teaching and learning occur in an Indigenous world. This paper provides an in-depth description of the course followed by a commentary section where the views of the writer, another faculty member, two students, and one of the artists-in-residence are discussed. The final section looks to the future, offering implications for music education both locally and globally.

Chansons de la terre: Des approches indigènes à l'enseignement et l'apprentissage

Chansons de la terre est le troisième cours d'une série conçue et facilitée par Dr. Lorna Williams, Canada Research Chair en éducation aborigène à l'Université de Victoria. Sous-titrés Des approches indigènes à l'enseignement et l'apprentissage , ces cours permettent aux étudiants de la faculté d'éducation ainsi qu'à d'autres étudiants à l'université, aux professeurs, et à la communauté de s'engager dans une pratique éducationnelle expérimentale et d'apprendre de première main comment faire l'enseignement et l'apprentissage dans un monde indigène. Earthsongs, Lieder der Erde: Wege Einheimisches zu unterrichten und zu lernen

Earthsongs: Lieder der Erde war der dritte Kurs in einer Serie, welche von Dr. Lorna Williams, Vorsitzende der Canada Forschung in einheimischer Erziehung an der Universität in Victoria, entwickelt und ermöglicht wurde, untertitelt Lernen und Unterrichten in einer einheimischen Welt. Diese Kurse ermöglichen Vordiplom und Diplomstudenten aus der pädagogischen Fakultät und durch die Universität Mitgliedern der Fakultät und der Gemeinde die Möglichkeit in experimentelle Erziehungspraktiken einbezogen zu werden und aus erster Hand zu erfahren, wie Unterrichten und Lernen in der einheimischen Welt geschieht. Der Bericht enthält eine genaue Beschreibung des Kurses gefolgt von einem Abschnitt mit Kommentaren, die aus dem Blickwinkel der Autorin, einem anderen Fakultätsmitglied, zwei Studenten und einem der Künstler in Residence diskutiert werden. Canciones de la Tierra: Formas indígenas de enseñar y aprender

Canciones de la Tierra fue el tercero de una serie de cursos diseñado e impartido por la Dra. Lorna Williams, directora del Centro Canadiense de Investigación en Educación Aborigen en la Universidad de Victoria. Estos cursos, subtitulados “Aprender y enseñar en un mundo indígena”, ofrecían la oportunidad de participar en una práctica educativa experiencial para aprender de primera mano cómo se lleva a cabo la enseñanza y el aprendizaje en un mundo indígena, a estudiantes de licenciatura y de posgrado de la Facultad de Educación y de la universidad, a profesores y a miembros de la comunidad. El artículo proporciona una descripción en profundidad del curso, seguida de una sección en la que se comentan los puntos de vista de la escritora, de otro profesor, de dos estudiantes y de un artista residente. La sección final mira hacia el futuro ofreciendo implicaciones para la educación musical, tanto locales como globales.
