The title of this conference, ‘Music of the Spheres”, is indeed cosmic. And the twin sub-themes of ‘Heritage’ and ‘Technology’ are very stimulating, provocative even. During the first part of this presentation I shall argue that ‘heritage’ is a dynamic process and that this process is dependent on technology. I shall define technology in the broadest sense. In the second part, my presentational method will be to stay close to music, working outwards from musical encounter. We shall listen attentively to music, reflecting on what we may learn from this experience about music, technology, ‘heritage’ and music education transactions.
